STAND-ALONE ENL

Using Language and Literacy Centers to Bridge Foundational Gaps for Newcomer and SIFE Learners

This course is designed for teachers who are implementing the Bridges-NYSED Stand-alone ENL program for SIFE & Entering Newcomers with up to a 6th grade level of literacy in home language. All cohort members eligible to participate in coaching office hours or consultations.

Course prerequisite: Orientation to Bridges Programs

CTLE: 16 CTLE hours are awarded upon successful completion of all four modules

All modules are available via synchronous Zoom facilitation or asynchronous self-paced learning. 

Module 1 | Getting to Know and Navigate the Bridges ELA-ENL Program

  • Become familiar with the center’s design and Start Up lessons (teaching the center protocols)
  • Learn how to navigate the Bridges Stand-alone resources

Module 2 | Building the Foundation in Stand-alone ENL

  • Introduction to Language and Literacy Centers for SIFE and Entering Newcomers
  • Leveling and Progress Monitoring

Module 3 | Using Small Group Instruction to Drive Progress Monitoring

  • Implementing Small Group Instruction (Reading)
  • Implementing Small Group Instruction (Writing)

Module 1 is from 12 to 2:30 PM. Modules 2 and 3 are from 9 AM – 1 PM.

Implementing Accessible ELA Units of Study for Newcomer and SIFE Learners

This course is designed for teachers who are implementing the Bridges-NYSED ENL/ELA Intervention program for SIFE & Entering Newcomers with up to a 6th grade level of literacy in home language. All cohort members eligible to participate in coaching office hours or consultations.

Course prerequisite: Orientation to Bridges Programs

Module 1 | Getting to Know and Navigate the Bridges ELA-ENL Program

  • Become familiar with the Bridges ELA-ENL program assessments and progress monitoring
  • Learn how to navigate the Bridges ELA-ENL resources

Module 2 | Building the Foundation in ELA-ENL + Using Data- Driven Assessment in Unit 1 Program Implementation

  • Introduction to the Bridges ELA-ENL Program
  • Using Data-Driven Assessment to Implement Unit 1: Identity & Connections

Module 3 | Using Student Writing Data to Inform Instruction in Units 2 and 3

  • Analyzing student writing within Unit 2: Power and Resources
  • Giving Targeted Feedback within Unit 3: Water and Impact
