Who We Serve
Bridges serves immigrant students who have recently entered public high schools, are new to English, and who may have had interrupted and/or inconsistent schooling in their home country. These include:
All Newcomer multilingual learners: English learners who have been in the U.S. three years or less
Students with Limited/Interrupted or Inconsistent Formal Education (SLIFE), or students with literacy or math skills two years below grade level
SIFE with Developing Literacy (SDL), SIFE who are new to print or have a reading level below the third grade in their home language
Offerings
Our program offerings serve students up to 6th grade in home language literacy or math skills and include the following:
Programs offered:
An ENL/ELA including courses in Integrated ELA/ENL and Stand-alone ENL
An online course on Developing Responsive Classroom Communities for SIFE and Newcomer ELs for districts nationwide, focusing on instructional and social-emotional learning strategies and tools that can be used across content areas.
A Newcomer Program, which includes:
A newcomer year-long ELA/ELD curriculum,
Professional Learning on implementing the ELA/ELD curriculum,
A Foundational Math unit,
Spanish language intake assessment tool is also available from our partner project.
Multi-Tiered Support Services (MTSS) for SIFE and Newcomers
Bridges Programs are designed to be part of an MTSS framework for your multilingual learners:
MTSS is a framework that includes, at a minimum, universal screening, progress monitoring, and effective tiered instruction;
Culturally responsive principles within each component of the framework; and
Scientifically-based interventions that meet the needs of ELs and ELSWDs including acceleration of language & literacy.
